What Is DHA & How Does It Work?
Everyone feels better and more confident with a tan, but now we’re so much more aware of the damaging nature of the sun’s rays (thankfully) the vast majority of us are choosing to fake it.
Clever self-tanning agents are able to provide us with a natural looking sunkissed glow all year round, no sun exposure required! (Can we get a whoop whoop!)
But how does your favourite self-tan actually work?
DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) is the ingredient used within all tanning products to achieve the golden colour you know and love.
In its simplest terms, DHA is a 3-carbon sugar that reacts with the amino acids in the surface of our skin cells; this produces a darkening effect that simulates a suntan, and makes us feel great. It doesn’t damage the skin in any way, and will fade gradually as the upper layers naturally shed.
(Did you know our bodies are made up of around 30 trillion skin cells, and we lose approximately 500 million of them every day? Wow!)
So what’s the difference between Skinny Tan’s DHA and other DHA?
The clever brains at Skinny Tan HQ have discovered an eco-responsible way to produce our naturally derived DHA. It’s based on renewable vegetable raw material (including rapeseed, wheat and sugarbeets) and has a minimized environmental footprint.
We’re doing our bit to bring you up to products that are made with up to 99% naturally derived ingredients, are vegan friendly and cruelty free, as well as being sustainably sourced. We have lots of plans in the pipeline to make our lasting legacy an even greater one, minimising our use of plastics and becoming even more sustainable.
What level of tan will you get with Skinny Tan products?
Our range encompasses everything from a light glow and easy daily gradual tanning moisturisers right up to super dark results – so there’s definitely the perfect match for you!
The choice is yours! Just make sure you fake it, all the way and every day…
Happy Tanning! xx
